Legolas Information!

Legolas Greenleaf is the son of Thranduil, Lord of the Elves of Mirkwood. So then Legolas is the Prince of Mirkwood. He is of the Sindarin (a.k.a. the Grey Elves) Which is of the Teleri line, the greatest of the three elf kindreds.

Legolas, who is a messenger of Elrond (The Half-Elven Lord of Rivendell), was part of the Council of Elrond, where the fate of the One Ring was determined. When the council decided that the ring must be destroyed to save Middle Earth, Legolas decided to join the Fellowship to be the representative the elves of Middle Earth.

His weapon of choice He is considered to be one of,(if not) the most swiftest and graceful fighter in the Fellowship.

Description

Clothing

The color of the clothing Legolas wears can be summed up from this one quote: "There was also a strange elf clad in green and brown, Legolas, a messenger from his father, Thranduil, King of the Elves of Northern Mirkwood."

So basically, Legolas wears green and brown. At least people believe that it is likely he wears that the majority of the time, not just then (at the council of Elrond...).

Hair

This is probably 2nd most popular Lord of the Rings related debate (the first being Do Balrogs Have Wings). What color is Legolas' hair? Well, Tolkien never said, so we don't know. Personally, I do believe he is a blonde. Legolas is from the Teleri line and Tolkien does say that their hair shines in the moonlight. By taking that into account, so i personally think that the hair of the Teleri (majority speaking)would be light colored. Also, Thranduil, father of Legolas, has blonde hair. So it is quite possible if Legolas does also.

Book Quotes

Fellowship of the Ring

"Not through lack of watchfulness," said Legolas, "but perhaps through over-kindliness. And we fear that the prisoner had aid from others, and that more is known of our doings than we could wish. We guarded this creature day and night, at Gandalf's bidding, much though we wearied of the task. But Gandalf bade us hope still for his cure, and we had not the heart to keep him ever in dungeons under the earth, where he would fall back into his old black thoughts."

P.286 The Council of Elrond

Legolas continued. "In the days of fair weather we led Gollum through the woods; and there was a high tree standing alone far from the others which he liked to climb. Often we let him mount up to the highest branches, until he felt the free wind; but we set a guard at the tree's foot. One day he refused to come down , and the guards had no mind to climb after him: he had learned the trick of clinging to boughs with his feet as well as his hands; so they sat by the tree far into the night."

P.286 The Council of Elrond

"It was that very night of summer, yet moonless and starless, that Orcs came on us at unawares. We drove them off after some time; they were many and fierce, but they came from over the mountains, and were unused to the woods. When the battle was over, we found that Gollum was gone, and his guards were slain or taken. It then seemed plain to us that the attack had been made for his rescue, and that he knew of it beforehand. How that was contrived, we cannot guess; but Gollum is cunning, and the spies of the Enemy are many. The dark things that were driven out in the year of the Dragon's fall have returned in greater numbers, and Mirkwood is again an evil place, save where our realm is maintained."

P.286-287 The Council of Elrond

"We have failed to recapture Gollum. We came onto his trail among those of many Orcs, and it plunged deep into the Forest, going south. But ere long it escaped our skill, and we dared not continue the hunt; for we were drawing nigh to Dol Guldur, and that is still a very evil place; we do not go that way."

P.287 The Council of Elrond

"That is true," said Legolas. "But the Elves of this land were of a race strange to us of the Silvan folk, and the trees and the grass do not now remember them. Only I hear the stones lament them: deep they delved us, fair they wrought us, high they builded us; but they are gone. They are gone. They sought the Havens long ago."

P.318 The Ring Goes South

"Well," cried Legolas as he ran up. "I have not brought the Sun. She is walking in the blue fields of the South, and a little wreath of snow on this Redhorn hillock troubles her not at all. But I have brought back a gleam of good hope for those who are doomed to go on feet. There is the greatest wind-drift of a ll just beyond the turn, and there our Strong Men were almost buried. They despaired, until I returned and told them that the drift was little wider than a wall. And on the other side the snow suddenly grows less, while further down it is no more than a white coverlet to cool a hobbit's toes."

P.328 The Ring Goes South

"I have not heard it was the fault of the Elves," said Legolas. (Talking to Gimli about the waning of the friendship between Elves and Dwarves)

P.340 Journey in the Dark

"And there is the tree of the High Elves!" said Legolas. (Speaking of the engravings in the Gates of Moria)

P.342 A Journey in the Dark

Movie Quotes (from seeing the movie...sooo many times)

Fellowship of the Ring

"He is no mere ranger. This is Aragorn, son of Arathorn. You owe him your allegiance."

"And heir to the throne of Gondor."

"Have you heard nothing that Lord Elrond has said? The Ring must be destroyed!"

"Goblins!" <--*i love this one*

"We must move on. We cannot linger here."

"I have not the heart to tell you. For me the grief is still too near."

"Hurry! Frodo and Sam have reached the eastern shore!"

"You mean not to follow them...."
